Linux in todays world

We can have a longg discussion on this.Linux is in a very wide use across all offices . Every top level company has Unix based or Linux based softwares installed . Mostly the Linux based platforms enable a user ,a secured software which can control the company's data.

Linux based Ubuntu 7.10 is the only operating system that has survived unscathed from a hacking competition hosted by CANSECWEST Vancouver 2008 and sponsored by TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative. (as of 31 march 2008 )

All the platforms which have been used as targets in the competition were fully updated with the latest released security patches .But while Mac Os X 10.5.2 Leopard was hacked by a zero-day vulnerability in Safari 3.1 , VISTA ultimate SP1 was owned through a zero-day security flaw in Adobe's flash , and not through a hole in it's operating system or any of its default components.

It should not amuse you that even the soon to be released Google OS -Chrome OS is also based on Linux kernel .As like Linux ,this will also be an open source software and mostly will be available for free (Hopefully !!)

And here's the interesting news ,as this blog is exclusive for us ,Bitsians (i prefer callin Bitzos ,as in da crazy gizmos but whteva ) our college lan is also supported by Linux kernel , which is very hard to crack ( belive me ,we wernt successful in gettin any close to its security features , it proves your worth !!)

Linux is there in evry field these days , its all used in to increase the security features of a device . You might have already known that ,Windows viruses are not detected in Linux OS . As they were exclusively written for Windows ,Linux neither detects nor spreads those viruses.
(This specifically doesnt mean that you dont have any viruses for Linux -- you can create a virus for linux too , but it isnt easy and it doesnt soo rapidly as a Windows virus does --so if you have any plans of creating a virus for hacking into it . Think twice !! )

I can go on about Linux , but enough for now . U'll know more about it in the next posts . Untill then --- Happie Reading !!!
